Creativity and Expressive Arts
October 10, 2026
Over the past two months we have been working hard to develop focusses within our improvement plan.
Here is an update of actions that have been taken focussing on our creativity and expressive arts section:
- All Pre-school staff and 0-3 Team Leader have been trained in Kodaly.
- Kodaly experiences are now happening spontaneously within play and daily routines at least twice per week. On one occasion, Kodaly has been explored in the local community whilst on an outing.
- Creative storytelling approaches were explored at the Froebel conference in September; connections have been made with Glasgow City council to share experiences.
- 4 staff members visited another setting in Angus to consider spaces for music, movement, drama, storytelling and role play. Learning was shared at our October staff meeting.
- A loose parts station has been added into the Baby room environment indoors, staff are observing how children are using these resources through their play.
- Baby Sensory were invited into nursery to deliver an autumn session, 5 family members attended. A further session is planned for February.
- Key worker time in the Pre-school is now focussing on children’s interests and ideas. Staff are consulting with children about their ideas and are scaffolding their learning through experiences indoors and out within the community.
- Two members of the Baby room team have reflected on their Art at the Start training from last session and have put a plan in place of ideas they now wish to explore and action.
We are all very excited about the learning so far!
